Two local charities are set to benefit after this year’s Mayor’s Charity Ball raised a record-breaking £11,500.
Held at the Winter Garden in March, the annual event has been hailed as one of the most successful in its history, with organisers confirming it is the highest amount raised in at least the last 18 years.
Guests enjoyed an evening of entertainment, music and fundraising, with local businesses and organisations helping to support the occasion.
All proceeds from the Ball will go to Eastbourne Street Pastors, a volunteer group offering support and care on the town’s streets, and Forward Facing, which helps local families dealing with serious illness or bereavement.
Mayor of Eastbourne, Councillor Margaret Bannister, thanked everyone who contributed to the success of the event.
She said: “I am hugely grateful to everyone who helped make the evening so special. My sincere thanks go to our main sponsor, GLL (Better), and to Lightning Fibre for sponsoring the prosecco reception.
“I would also like to thank Margaret Watson for her wonderful harp music during the drinks reception, Keith Ridley for acting as MC, Don McPhee for his invaluable help with the raffle and fundraising on the night, Rewind 45 for keeping everyone entertained on the dance floor, and Trafalgar for providing such an excellent venue and catering.
“Finally, thank you to everyone who supported the Ball by attending, donating raffle prizes or advertising in the event programme. Your generosity has helped us raise a remarkable amount of money and it is truly appreciated.”
