The systems went down on Friday, 5th June. Whilst the systems were down, residents were able to attend the waste recycling centres without the need to book a slot.
The booking system was introduced by the former Conservative administration at ESCC, was approved and implemented by former Conservative Cllr Claire Dowling. Ms Dowling served as ESCC’s Lead Member for Transport and Environment and represented Uckfield North.
However, the council was heavily criticised for this move, with some calling it a “waste of time and money,” whilst others, although not many, supported the council’s decision in order to maintain a record of those using the sites.
Other residents also shared concerns around fly tipping in the local area, which many are already frustrated with. Concerns were aimed at the council, with residents explaining how they believe making these local waste recycling centres harder to use and access could have a detrimental impact on the environment and the amount of fly tipping across East Sussex.

The booking page is now back up and running and can be ascessed here: https://www.eastsussex.gov.uk/rubbish-recycling/booking-system?fbclid=IwY2xjawSVAfVleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETFSMEhQUnV6ZENqZ3ZTakp1c3J0YwZhcHBfaWQQMjIyMDM5MTc4ODIwMDg5MgABHg_-Eo5ztIxX2tBOwbRXyKXSC2rVGHvQ8-jGCZdmwdV9y88tjNEbJzGPP6Sy_aem_atCjCAnw4Ej04k5OqIT7qA
